FIRST OF ALL - AFTER NUMBEROUS VISITS TO PHUKET OVER TWO DECADES - I AM NOT SO SURE, THAT PATONG IS TEH BEST PLACE TO GO ANYMORE. I HAVE SEEN HOW BANGLA AND OTHER FUN STREETS HAVE CHANGED IN TRAVEL-AGENCIES AND TAILOR-SCAMS IN THE SAME STILE AS OTHER TOURIST-TRAPS HERE.

IT SSEEMS TO ME, THAT KARON BEACH OR EVEN KATA BEACH ARE THE OBVIOUS CHOICE FOR A GOOD HOLIDAY - YOU CAN WALK AROUND FREELY BETWEEN BARS AND RESTAURANTS WITH A WIDE RANGE OF ENJOYMENT. HOTEL CAPACITY EVERYWHERE IS GREAT - AND SPECIALLY IN MARCH - THE GUESTS ARE FEW.

I HAVE NOT BEEN THERE FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS, BUT DANISH OWNED AND RUN "MERMAID HOTEL" IN BOTH MENTIONED SEEMS TO ME AS THE BEST CHOICE - VERY WELL SITUATED CLOSE TO EVERYTHING AND YOU MIGHT BETTER BOOK EARLY, AS THESE ARE VERY POPULAR - THE PRICE IS NOT CHEAPER ON ARRIVAL.

I WISH YOU A NICE TRIP - GOOD LUCK

Opening poster, There has been a lot of bad press in Thailand, about Phuket, but from what 'riverkwai' says he seems to know what he's talking about. I think he means in the quoted sentence that 'HOTEL AVAILABILITY EVERYWHERE IS GREAT'. If you have got the time to wander round and check, when you arrive, you may get a better deal.

Riverkwai, please don't take this the wrong way, but on a lot of forums, it is considered as 'shouting' if you type in capital letters. I know this was not your intention, but it is better that you know this.

Regards Stingray. :)
