Nervous English Lone Traveller!

Postby knighty » Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:25 pm

Good afternoon to you all.
My name is Alex, im a 26 yr old guy, heading over to Thailand for my friends wedding.

I arrive into BKK on 24th March and have 3 days before Four more of my friends arrive. I have read through various threads and picked up a few tips.

I was just wandering if you could give me any advice, on:

1. Whether to stay in bangkok for the full 3 days? My friends arrive after 3 days then we go to Samui on the 30th, so wasnt sure whether to do a trip to Koh Samet for a night, as i have heard it is beautiful.

2. What are the must sees in Bangkok if i stay there until the 30th?

3. Never been away completely on my own, so just wanted to know things to be wary off, scams, prices from the airport to kho san road, and best way to get there, and just any other helpful tips any of you may have?

I appreciate, this will probably be repetitive, as you must get loads of "newbie's" on here seeking advice, but i would be greatful for any info, so i dont make too many costly mistakes, as im trying to do it on a budget.
:D
Thankyou

alex

1) Yes. You can have a trip to Koh Samet from Bangkok as it is not far from Bangkok.
One or two night stay in Koh Samet / Samed island is good idea and possible for a three-day trip.

2) (What are your interest?) I would suggest shopping and eating! See the Thai life, gardening, and clasic-Thai-style houses in Samut Sakorn.

Go to the Grand Palace and the vicinity area when all your friends are around.

3) The said post of the price for taxi is likely to be so. You can have a bus to get to somewhere in city center and then get a taxi. However, Direct taxi to Khao Sarn Road is the best choice as it is more convenience.

It says in a Thai web board (Apr 2009) that there is an easy transporation to 'Samed Island / Koh Samet'; vans run from the Victory Monument--right there--to the pear for boarding to the island.

For more information: Tel 084-7691702, 084-7611772.
Only 200 baths/person
Trip time: 2.5 hrs.
More than one boarding van stops around the monument: in front of Poang Hlee restaurant with a near-by book shop.
Boat fees: 100 baht/person/leg > 30-mintue run

I wish I could join you.
