Biz in Thailand

Postby Icebreaker » Mon Mar 09, 2009 1:44 pm

Hi guys,

from 2003 till 2006 I was shareholder and managing director of a company based in Chiang Mai. Setting up business in Thailand for us was realtively easy, and I am surprised that so many people seem to have difficulties. However, it helps a lot if one does speak Thai which I do.

The only thing I regret is that despite poltical changes in Thailand, to better or worse, one thing will never change. Foreign money is welcome in Thailand, Foreigners in person are liked best when they leave.

Hi Icebreaker,

what was the business you were in and why did you sell it? Would be nice to know why...I am looking for some business opportunities especially in Chiangmai and my dream is to settle there one day...

Cheers

Hi Merboy,

we started as a consulting company helping people to set up business in Thailand. We supported some charity organisations by finding sponsors for their work and we did research in the field of tourism by collecting data for German publishers. Since I left the profile of the company changed. Have a look yourself what they are doing now:

Good luck in Thailand

Hi Icebreaker,

the site doesnt load...is it a temporary problem or the company disappeared? Anyway I would be interested in why you gave up - I cant wait to find a job or business in Thai, that would be my dream. But I guess I will have to work until I retire and spend my old age there. If I survive my smoking and my beers

Phillip

Finding a job or business in Thailand is actually possible.
I have been working a few years in a automotive co.
I have now made my own company and been involved in that 3 years.
We have a huge sale to Europe and US customers.

But youre angle into this is by talking about youre smoking and beer drinking.
Grow up man!!, Thailand is other than beaches -women and drinking.
If drinking is youre thinking for going to work in Thailand youre will not last for 2 months.
Any co. would kick youre ass. far away right away.
What do you actually want!!??

Cheap women and beers then go for holliday and not destroy reputation for us that try to work hard and showing Thai people that Farlang also can have brain and do hard work.

Hi all
I am based in sunny Phuket, in dive business. Relatively easy to set up, and many customers. You can apply for a "2 million" registered capital to which allows ONE work permit or 4million which allows 2 work permits. Application through a lawyer will cost about 50k. Anyone interested in a dive business?

Sorry for the late reply. I moved on to Vietnam. My time in Thailand was great but it was also time for a change.

Hi ALL
I wonder if anyone here can give me some advice, I have asked about this on other forums but was basically told to forget it.

I am desperate to find work in Thailand, so i can move there to be with my beloved lady, I did a TEFL course but then found it impossible to get a teaching job because i have no BA, (the tefl school didnt tell me about that requirement till after they had my money).

I would love to start a small business in Thailand, but thanks to the ex wife, i have no capital for that. So will have to find a job for now, I will do any job that pays enough for me and my lady to live our simple life together, i am a hard worker, I have good customer service skills and some sales experience, but i am willing to do any job (so long as it is legal).

Anyway, I will be grateful for any practical advice.

yours
Pat

Anyway, i hope that u will find a job soon and good luck

regard.

Hello;

I've been doing business in Thailand since 1997 and all goes well even when there is turmoil within. As someone already said...foreign money is welcomed here...but at the end of the day...loved by some or not...they're always glad to wave goodbye..LOL

I do help my wife and her friends with their design/ building business since they usually deal with foreigners. I met a lot of nice friends just mediating and /or managing different building projects for them. Therefore, I'm always aware of the tensions that can begin to mount when it comes to the differences in cultural thinking and ways of approaching business. Been there and done that enough times myself. LOL. That situation seldom goes away and always seems to be the only constant problem I generally hear of flying between the views of my Thai and foreign business friends. Sooner or later most of us gladly just begin to adjust the best we can, start enjoying and embracing the differences the best we can. A few others just leave or get a good hint of where we can go: ) At the end of the day, I think most find the right balance after getting to know who you can trust doing work for you and those you can't.

That said:

Please pass on the word to friends if you need some trustworthy Interior work, outsourcing on different decor products/ building projects for you business, office, resort and so on. I also help with safeguarding different building projects when business people need a second set of eyes and ears.

As for me personally, I tend to enjoy running and maintaining a large amount of B2B sites between my own and on social networks. I'm always open to trading links, making business connections and sharing between hard working down to earth businessmen/women.
